The 2009 Children's Fiction Writing Award WINNERS

Here they are, the winners of the two age groups and three categories.

Age Group - 8-12 Years

‘2012’ by Masheyla

Masheyla was born in Calgary and is passionate about her drawing. She also dances full time, enjoys writing, shopping and hanging out with friends.

‘The Phantom of the Moonlight Mist’ by Stephanie

Stephanie enjoys reading, writing and playing tennis.

‘The Mystery of the Red Hand’ by Noa

Noa enjoys acting, singing, dancing, writing, reading, and playing piano. She has ambitions to become an actor in television or movies, but may just decide to focus on writing for the moment, following her success in the Children’s Fiction Writing Award in 2009.



Age Group - 12-15 Years

‘Princess, They Have Been Waiting’ by Nicola

Nicola lives in Calgary with her family and cat, Shadow, where she enjoys dancing, acting and scrapbooking. Nicola also loves to write for fun and is always grateful to her family for their continued support.

‘The Dark Roses’ by Nabeela

Nabeela is a young aspiring writer, who is continually inspired by music, nature and the world around her. She enjoys the arts, music, and drama and loves to write in both English and French.

‘The Dog Whisperer’ by Rebecca

Writing has been Rebecca’s passion since she was a small child and she enjoys reading books in a wide variety of subjects and genres. Rebecca plays piano and guitar, which help her to wind down after a busy day. She also enjoys tap dancing, loves to ski in the Rockies each winter and hopes to play on her school’s basketball and badminton teams this year.

The winning stories in each age group were professionally edited, then collected into an anthology, featuring not only the story, but also a photograph and biography of the author, printed by our wonderful sponsors at Blitzprint. Each young author in the anthology also received ten complimentary copies of the anthology for friends and family.
